Designed in collaboration with a team of Alzheimer's and assisted-living care experts, every detail of the residence—from the layout of hallways and common areas to the specialized door handles and windows—accommodates the special lifestyle needs of an Alzheimer's resident. Lead project consultant is John Zeisel, Ph.D., president and co-founder of Hearthstone Alzheimer's Care, Ltd., known worldwide for his hands-on and innovative management, consulting and training services for Alzheimer's care providers and residences. For a more natural experience, rather than bringing in a commercial contractor, owner Ed Apple, Sr. chose Marc Belz and Eddie Kircher of Kircher-Belz, fine custom-home builders, and architects Askew Nixon Ferguson to create a one-of-a-kind Alzheimer's residence in Memphis.
